Rehab Professionals

Rehab ProfessionalsRehab professionals are those who work in rehab centers and specialize in the treatment of drug and alcohol addiction. Rehab professionals pledge to place above all else the recovery and overall wellbeing of their San Diego patients. The following list describes some of the rehab professionals you may encounter in a treatment center:

  • Clinical directors. Clinical directors manage rehab facilities. This means they supervise all services rendered, in order to ensure that quality care is provided to patients. Clinical directors also coordinate staff meetings and employee workshops. It’s their responsibility to see that the facility runs smoothly and that there is consistent communication among faculty and patients. The qualifications to be a clinical director vary, but a master’s degree in one of the following areas is preferred: clinical administration, life and medical science, health care administration, or nursing. Some facilities employ directors with only a bachelor’s degree, depending on the experience and expertise of the applicant.
  • Primary care therapists. Each patient has a primary care therapist, who is a principal source for consolation throughout treatment. Primary care therapists work to ensure that a San Diego patient’s needs are met by the program. They must keep in mind each patient’s need for control, containment, contact with others, and comfort, as all of these are common needs of addicts.
  • Addiction psychologists, psychiatrists, and counselors. Addiction psychologists and psychiatrists are mental health professionals who specialize in treating addiction and can especially help those who suffer from dual disorders. Counselors also provide psychological help and see patients in individual, family, and group sessions. The goal of counseling is to identify the root cause of a San Diego patient’s addiction and change destructive behavior patterns.
  • Rehab nurses. Substance abuse nursing is about more than administering medications and maintaining a polite bedside manner. Substance abuse nurses often build relationships with patients and provide them with a strong base of emotional support. San Diego patients may turn to their nurses during times of intense drug cravings, when they are at risk for relapse.

Drug addiction treatment provides San Diego patients with caring professionals who will devote their time to recovery.
